Chai Protein: Masala Chai Review
Chai Lattes have been my go-to drink for years now, often so in the place of coffee. I love the spicy warm taste, and I could seriously drink a few of them in a day! I was quite excited to discover Chai Protein, a protein powder that tastes like a chai latte. It can be consumed hot or cold, so you can make a protein rich chai latte, or drink it cold in a shaker. I’ve also been putting this protein powder into my smoothies lately, and it tastes so incredibly delicious in a banana smoothie!
Chai Protein comes in two different flavours, Vanilla Chai which is made from whey protein, and Masala Chai which is made from soy protein. The Masala Chai is what I opted for since it’s dairy free (and also vegan!). The Masala Chai tastes like an original Chai Latte; warm, rich and spicy. While I haven’t tried the Vanilla Chai personally, this flavour is designed to be a little less intense and a little sweeter.
While chai lattes can often be high in sugar, the Masala Chai Chai Protein has only 0.3g of sugar per serve. I’ve been making an effort to reduce my sugar intake lately, so it’s been great being able to still drink as much of this as I like. This recipe for a chai latte is super easy to follow and tastes delicious (especially with a little cinnamon sprinkled on top 😉 )
Currently as I write this, I’m sipping on a Chai Banana Smoothie, which has become my go-to breakfast lately. Here’s the recipe I’m loving….
CHAI BANANA SMOOTHIE RECIPE
- 1 large banana
- 3 tablespoons of Masala Chai Protein Powder
- 2 teaspoons of chia seeds
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- Fill with water to the max line
- Ice (optional)
Pop all ingredients into the Nutribullet and give a good shake, before blending until smooth. This smoothie is a delicious mix of chai spices and banana, while being low in sugar and high in protein.
TIP: Put your liquid in the shaker/blender jar before you put in the protein. This ensures it won’t get wet and stick to the base of the jar!
