Why I Love Jojoba Oil
When it comes to facial oils, I’m pretty picky. I want something that is hydrating, yet doesn’t feel sticky or greasy on my skin. I’ve tried quite a few different oil products in the past, and I have to say that Jojoba is by far my favourite and here’s why….
Jojoba Oil isn’t actually an oil, believe it or not – it’s actually a liquid wax. The jojoba plant is the only plant in the world that’s know for producing a wax, as all other plants produce oil. It’s for this reason that jojoba oil has a shelf life a lot longer than many other natural oils, as other plant oils can start to go off or oxidise if not kept in the correct conditions. The waxy properties make jojoba oil so similar to the natural waxes that our skin produce. It’s for this reason the skin actually thinks that the jojoba oil has actually been produced by our skin. This means the pores opens up to the product and the jojoba oil can sink deep into the skin to work it’s magic.
Jojoba oil can be used on a wide range of skin types. Since it’s antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and hypoallergenic, it can be used on even the most sensitive skin to help calm skin irritation and reduce redness. As we age the natural waxes in the skin begin to decrease so jojoba can help make up for this by adding moisture back into the skin. It’s also great for those with oily skin, as jojoba tricks the skin into thinking it has produced enough sebum, instead of over-producing, so it actually helps control oily skin.
I’ve been using jojoba oil for well over a year and a half now, and it’s without a doubt one of my favorite facial products. A little goes a long way, so a 50ml or even a 30ml bottle will last quite sometime. Since I’ve been using this oil my skin has become a lot smoother, softer, and more even in texture and appearance. I used to get a little oiliness in the T-Zone area, and this has reduced dramatically. I like to work this product in with my night time skincare routine, and I’m currently using it a couple of times a week or when my skin feels a bit dry. However it can be used everyday and I have gone through periods (especially in winter) where I’ve done this.
Jojoba oil does feel a little heavy on the skin at first, so I always apply it at night as this gives it time to absorb into the skin and work it’s magic overnight. While it doesn’t make the skin look oily, the oil doesn’t sit very well under makeup, so I wouldn’t recommend using this in the morning if you do wear makeup.
The brand of jojoba oil that I use is from The Jojoba Company, and I would highly recommend checking out their products if this oil is something your interested in. Their products are made from the finest jojoba oil, and the jojoba plants are grown in a chemical and pesticide free area in Australia. This means that what you are putting on your skin is pure and chemical free.
