The Maxi Dress

Maxi Dresses for a Petite Frame

Since summer has ended, the weather has actually gotten better. Go figure! On the day we took these photos, we decided to take a walk through Chingford Park in North Dunedin. It’s such a pretty park, and the old stables located there almost look like something out of a fairytale.

This maxi dress is one of my favourite dresses I own and I love pairing it with this denim jacket. Maxi dresses are really the ultimate in comfort and it’s a great way to wear a dress without having to top up your tan or shave your legs 😂 They are also the perfect dress for when it’s windy (which it almost always is in Dunedin) as you don’t have to worry about your dress blowing around.

I’ve found that maxi dresses can sometimes swamp a petite frame so I always look for dresses that are two toned like this one, with a block colour on top. This dress has a  slightly higher waistline before it drops into the patterned fabric, and this helps to give the illusion of length and makes me look much taller than I really am! This one is just a centimetre or two off the ground when I am wearing flats, so I often wear it with a pair of cute low heeled sandals if it’s wet or if I’m walking around on uneven surfaces and I don’t want it to drag on the ground. If your maxi dress is too long, you can always get them taken up a few centimetres to ensure a perfect length.
