Keeping My Skin Happy This Winter

Little Olive Tree Skincare

Ah Winter. Sadly you have well and truly arrived here in New Zealand! I’ve noticed a massive change in my skin this winter. Last year it was fairly normal, but this winter it has been oh so dry. I’m not sure whether it’s been a change in my diet and fitness regime that has affected it, or maybe the winter has just been more harsh this year,  but either way my skin has been suffering a little.

Generally in the winter we end up spending a lot of time inside with the heat pump or heater on, and this warm dry air plays a key role in drying the skin out out. When I was working in an office last month, I was sitting almost directly under the heat pump and I couldn’t believe the effect it had on my body. My skin was insanely dry, my hands were raw and cracked, and even my eyes felt like someone had thrown sand into them – they were just that dry! I’ve made a point of drinking a lot of water this winter (which is so hard when it’s so cold!), but I’ve really noticed a change in the texture of my skin since ensuring I’m keeping my hydration levels up.

Another must do for amazing winter skin is to exfoliate. Exfoliating helps to remove the dead flaky top layer of skin. It’s important to choose an exfoliator that is effective, yet gentle on the skin, and my absolute favourite is the Little Olive Tree Coffee Body Scrub*. I’ve reviewed the Vanilla scent in full here, and I’m currently using the Sweet Orange scent (which I think may be my absolute fave!). This exfoliator is completely natural and also contains one of my favourite ingredients, coconut oil, to help moisturise the skin. Once my skin is all silky smooth and flake-free, I’ll apply a thick moisturiser. The one I’m loving is another Little Olive Tree product, the Whipped Shea Body Butter. This body butter is deliciously thick and luxurious to apply and it’s extremely hydrating for dull dry skin.

I feel like this combo is an absolute winner, and it’s really made a difference to my skin this winter. I generally use the Body Scrub two to three times a week, and then I like to use the body butter every day. Personally I love applying the body butter before I head to bed as I feel like it works it’s magic overnight and I wake up with lovely soft skin.
