Dairy Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

Dairy Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate chip cookies are one of my favourite indulgences, and when I went dairy free I wanted to still be able to enjoy this delicious baked treat…. but without having to break my no dairy diet. I did a little looking around on the internet, but some recipes contained ingredients I either didn’t like (such as peanut butter), or ingredients I didn’t have. I decided to create my own recipe based on the way I used to make my regular chocolate chip cookies, and just swapped the butter and chocolate chips out for dairy free options.

I thought dairy-free chocolate chips might have been kind of expensive, but I came across these ones at Countdown by the brand Essentials. I’ll admit they are definitely not the healthiest, and the chocolate definitely isn’t the most delicious I’ve ever had, but in cookies they are pretty damn good. They don’t contain any dairy or milk (but may be processed in plants that contain milk, so if you are allergic, these still aren’t 100%). They also only cost  $2.50 for 290 grams!

Before I get started with the recipe, I should probably mention that these are not at all healthy. They are fairly high in fat and sugar, and when I put all of the ingredients into My Fitness Pal, they came out at around 192 calories per cookie. So yes, they are a delicious treat, but are definitely not good to be consumed all the time!

Dairy Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

1 cup + 1/2 cup of self-raising flour
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/4 cup + 1/8 cup of canola oil
1/2 cup of raw sugar
1/4 cup of white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
Around 1 cup of dairy-free chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius, and line a baking tray with baking paper.

Sift the self raising flour into a bowl, add the salt and stir.

In a seperate bowl add the canola oil and sugar, and stir. Add the egg and vanilla essence and continue mixing until combined.

Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and mix until combined. Add in the chocolate chips and mix again.

Form the cookies by using a heaped teaspoon of mixture. Roll into a ball and press down slightly to for the cookie. Place on to the baking tray. These do grow in size, so make sure there’s enough room between the cookies on the tray.

Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for around 8-10 minutes. Cool and enjoy!

Makes 12-14 cookies.

These cookies have been a total winner in my house, and no one would know that they are dairy free! They are a lovely chewy cookie and you could choose to add in white or dark choc chips too, depending on your taste preferences.

I love cookies but I have been trying to cut down on my dairy intake for awhile now. I have swapped to oat milk and everything, so recipes like yours are great. These look super delicious!
