Give Me The Cold Shoulder Trend!

The Lilly Mint Blog: NZ Fashion Blog

The cold shoulder trend has to be one of my current favourites. While there have been some beautiful tops available for AW17 unfortunately they aren’t the most practical if (like me), you live in a cold climate! I am so happy to see this fun trend is still going strong for the Spring season, with some beautiful cold shoulder tops becoming available in stores. I have my eye on this beautiful blush coloured top from Forever New – it just screams Spring!

I purchased this black cold shoulder top a couple of months back when it was on sale for only $14.95!. I love picking up “trendy” items on sale, as it allows me to try out a trend without committing too much money to it. This was actually deemed to be part of Forever News Autumn collection, but it has only started becoming warm enough lately for me to pull this one out of the wardrobe. I find the sales at this time of the year are the absolute best, as many of the shops in NZ are branches of stores in Australia. This means that the clothes generally are slightly thinner as they are catering to a warmer climate. I find many of the items I pick up in the winter sales, work for me almost nearly year around, since our summers here aren’t particularly hot. I generally end up wearing my Autumn/Winter clothing about 9 months of the year!

This top combines two of my favourite trends – cold shoulder and peplum, and it is such a flattering style. The fabric is actually a little on the  heavy  side so it’s great for wearing in the transitional months (and I have been known to pop a thermal cami on underneath, just for a little added warmth!).

I paired it with these ripped jeans from Jeans West (who I think really make the best jeans). I wear these all the time and have washed them multiple times and there has been no fading or washing out of the colour. I only buy Jeans West jeans now, as I’ve been so disappointed by other brands in the past!

Also, how pretty is this spot for taking photos? These were taken at Macandrew Bay, a small bay down the Otago Peninsula. It’s about a 15 minute drive from Dunedin, and not only are there lots of spots for taking pretty photos, there are also lots of local cafes. It may be my new favourite photo-taking spot!
