How I Organise My Wardrobe

How I Organise My Wardrobe + Green Khaki Jacket Styled for Autumn

A few weeks back I went through and sorted through all of my clothes. I do this twice a year, at roughly the start of Spring and Autumn, when the weather starts to change (although I was a bit later this year!). I find it’s the perfect time to have a bit of a clear out and get rid of what I haven’t worn that season, and take stock of what I need for the coming season.

I find this is such an effective way to keep only the clothes I’m currently reaching for in my wardrobe and not get too overwhelmed by too many choices! It also eliminates the need to wade through cami tops and summery skirts when it’s only a few degrees out and I’m really hunting for a sweater!

Of course it also helps majorly with space issues and for those of us who have limited wardrobe space, splitting your wardrobe into seasons is a great way to help with organisation. My wardrobe is currently quite small, and there is no way I’d manage to fit all of my clothes in there! I keep my “next season” stuff in a big plastic box in our spare room, so it’s still easily accessible if I need an item. Plus, it’s all kept clean and dust-free, and I know that when I pull items out come Spring, everything is clean and ready to wear.

I do the same thing with accessories and shoes. During the cooler months, my summer flats are put away in shoe boxes in the back of the wardrobe, while boots and sneakers are brought forwards. Scarves, beanies, and gloves are brought out, while my lighter scarves and summer hats are put away.

It’s always super fun going through everything and quite often I forget about pieces that I own but have packed away. It’s a bit like shopping your own stash!

One of these items I had actually forgotten about was this gorgeous khaki shirt jacket (or…shacket?!) that I got a year or so ago at a Designer Sample Sale for $20. Now I love this jacket, and as I get older I’ve found khaki and olive to be two colours that I feel work really well with my skin tone and hair colour.

A khaki shirt or light jacket is one of those perfect transitional pieces, and it’s almost up there with denim and leather jackets in terms of versatility. You can throw these on over jeans (like I styled in this post here), or over a pair of leggings with boots like I’ve styled in today’s look.

This is an outfit I’ve been wearing a lot lately, and I love the casual look of the open shirt. Also, to be completely honest, I’m at the stage where this shirt doesn’t actually button up, so wearing it open is the only option 😂 But I still think it looks cute none the less.
