The Best Lifestyle Apps: Sarah Lilly's Favourite Lifestyle Apps

Today I thought I’d do something a bit different and share a few of my current best lifestyle apps. These are all apps I use mostly daily, and are all ones that work on my personal development in some way. They are apps that allow you to tune out somewhat (no social media apps here), and many are a little obscure, so I hope you discover a new app you might love!

Each of the following apps is free to use, however most do have a paid option for extra options. I use the free version of all of these apps and find this version to be more than sufficient.

I’d also love to know what lifestyle apps you think are the best, so leave me a comment below or send me a DM on Instagram!

INSIGHT TIMER

Over the past wee while I’ve tried a number of meditation apps, and I’ve found Insight Timer to be my favourite so far. You don’t have to register and there are over 35,000 free meditations that you can choose from. There is a paid aspect to this app, but I’ve found there is more than enough on there to use! This app has a range of meditations and relaxations that focus on specific things such as stress or sleep. There is also a lot of free music and soundtracks such as running water and pan flutes – I love listening to this at night as I wind down, it’s so relaxing! I also often do the short 5-7 minute mediations right before I go to sleep, and they help me to drift off quicker.

PEAK

Peak is a brain training app, and the free version allows you to play 5 brain games a day. It tracks your progress against you previous games, as well as against your age group, and shows you areas that you can improve it. The games are fun and simple to play, and they really get you thinking! The more you play, you can see how it actually trains your brain and tests it, through a series of fun games. As someone who is always looking to boost my mental capacity, I really enjoy this app.

YOUVERSION

While I know this might not be everyone’s cup of tea, over the past while I’ve felt a real calling to learn more about the Bible and God. I downloaded the YouVersion app which is a Bible and also contains daily devotional plans that you can do around a range of topics. I’ve been really enjoying doing these, and I spend a few minutes on this app each night before I go to bed. If you are interested in the Bible, or are looking for daily devotionals or inspiration, definitely check this app out!

CO-STAR

I’ve also become really interested in astrology phases of the moon etc. While I know this contradicts a lot of what is in the Bible, I am finding a balance between the two that really fits me. I’ve been enjoying Co-Star app which is where you put in your birthday, time of birth, and birth place and it gives you an overall personal profile as well as daily updates about life based on where the planets and stars are aligned. Of course each to their own, and again I know this might not be everyones interest, but I’ve found this app quite enjoyable and it’s funny how a lot that does pop up, I can actually apply in my life. Definitely worth a download if you are interested in astrology and it’s free too.

DUOLINGO

One thing I’m really working on this year is striving to constantly make myself better. Whether that is a more positive outlook, increased happiness, or increasing my brain power and education. I’ve always been really interested in Spanish, so have started taking Spanish lessons via the Duolingo app. It’s so simple (and free – just watch a couple of ads), and you can fit it into you day in bite-sized chunks. I’ve found the style of learning really good, and you feel like you are playing a game rather than actually learning – if you know what I mean! If Spanish isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other languages you can choose from such as German, French and Mandarin.

PIGMENT

If you love getting creative, you’ll love Pigment. This app is best used on an iPad or tablet (in conjunction with the iPencil), and it’s a colouring book app. Each day there’s a tonne of different designs posted which you can colour in to your hearts content. I use the free version, and there’s a number of free images loaded daily, otherwise you can subscribe for full access. I find colouring in quite therapeutic and it’s something I really enjoy. Jack also likes having a go, so this app is fun for all ages.
